Architectural Heritage (draft only, more to follow)

While Dublin and Dun Laoghaire are being deficient in not introducing Architectural Conservation Areas, the standard of documentation being required for protected structures is very high and compares favourably with the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, in the country towns where Architectural Conservation Areas have been introduced, they are not being taken seriously, so that An Taisce continues to appeal demolition applications. Five appeals to date have resulted in local authority decisions being reversed by An Bord Pleanala, two in Carrick on Suir, one each in Cashel and Monaghan and most recently in Main St., Rathangan, a very fine late Georgian small town.
