  • Largest section of continuous upland conserved in Donegal, possibly in all Ireland.

HISTORY / DESCRIPTION
Contains four ecological zones: Arctic / Alpine Zone, Eroded Mountain Peat, Blanket Bog, Turbary and Gravel Extraction.

Donated under the understanding that it would be managed for conservation.
 
MANAGEMENT ISSUES AND FUTURE PLAN
  • Acknowledgement by Duchas is needed to acknowledge An Taisce ownership and the function of this property in the form of signage and literature.
  • Review Turbary Rights and sheep grazing, and stop them if necessary.
  • Opportunities should be investigated to acquire additional land along side Lough Nacung.
  • Assess visitor carrying capacity by establishing management zoning.
  • Assess opening access from Glentornan.
  • Investigate tourism opportunities at Glentornan.
