I sent the letter today to the Irish Times, I hope they publish it
Madam,
I would like to congratulate the Irish Times on its coverage and support of the forthcoming Earth Hour. This fantastic global phenomenon has shown the power of a grassroots-powered social network to move into the mainstream and gain widespread acceptance and support in a way that will truly raise awareness of the need to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
An Taisce, Ireland’s National Trust, fully supports the motives behind Earth Hour and hopes that the in addition to the actual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions during the hour, the message will get through to people that they need to make energy saving choices every hour not just once a year.
We would also like to thank Tony Lowes of Friends of the Irish Environment and John Gormley TD, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for the work they and their staff have put into Earth Hour 2009.
Remember to switch off between 8:30 and 9:30 on this Saturday 28th March 2009.
Yours sincerely
Charles Stanley-Smith
