An Taisce Support for Resident Associations

An Taisce is an environmental and heritage Non Governmental Organisation without access to state funding. Our organizational costs are solely funded via Membership and charitable donations. As a consequence, we are not in a position to provide funding to groups. We are however supportive of residents’ associations and can provide support and advice, on relevant planning issues.

If your group would like to join An Taisce we could provide support by means of looking at the issues to be addressed and advise on how the planning process works (in layman terms!).
Please note that we cannot, under the Planning legislation, get involved in local NIMBY (not in my backyard) issues but only cases of strategic, environmental, heritage protection concern and in cases that are contrary to Irish planning law and policy.

Please contact us if you want us to arrange for membership forms to be sent out.  Membership costs (pa) are as follows:

Individual €45
Family €55
Group €60
Corporate €250 (min – tax efficient donation under charities legislation).

FUNDING FOR RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS ACTIVITIES

Residents Associations and local Environmental Interest Groups can obtain funding from their Local Authority and the Heritage Council to support awareness raising activities. Contact:
  1.  The Heritage Council (Kilkenny) : tel: 056 7770777
  2. Your Local Authority – i.e. contact the Environmental Awareness Officer for information on the Environmental Awareness Grants.
When applying for funding it is important to sell the concept of how your project/idea will increase awareness around the issues of environmental protection including: waste management, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, sustainable planning, natural resource protection/enhancement. Examples of possible project ideas are:
  1.  Transportation issues projects e.g. identifying what the issues are and how you might go about resolving them locally – such as car pooling, promotion of ‘walking bus’ to school; teleworking etc…
  2. Collective waste reduction and recycling initiatives – consumer packaging awareness, shared disposal and delivery to bring banks, collective composting….
  3. Estate management and development - tree planting, cleaning, new bins etc….long-life lighting, efficient use of water in gardens etc…..

If you are interested in any of the above,  we would suggest that when you are talking to grant makers, see if you can establish what types of projects have been funded in the past (request listing).  If you need further information come to us on this.
