TAISCE THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR IRELAND SEEKS ENERGY
OFFICER
An Taisce is seeking to employ
a new staff member for three years to develop the charity's role in advocacy and
to fulfill its statutory function to review planning applications and policy in
Greenhouse Gas emission reduction and the reduction of emissions generated by
electricity generation.
An Taisce is Ireland’s oldest charity
protecting our built and natural heritage. This is done through the management
of a number of properties, through environmental education and advocacy, by
promoting debate on environmental issues and seeking improvements in management
of the built and natural environment. An Taisce also has a prescribed role in
the planning process, forestry, and aquaculture licensing. There is a small
team of professional employees and we are currently seeking an Energy Officer
The brief for the
Energy Officer is
1 To coordinate An Taisce’s advocacy
role in energy generation, transmission and use
2 To put forward
a strategy for energy generation, transmission and use, to achieve the 3%
annual reduction in CO2 emissions required concurrent with reduction in levels
of imported fossil fuel
3 To set out clear strategic objectives
based on international best practice to achieve these targets

To act as lead advocate of this strategy through public statements,
formal submissions to Government Oireachtas Committees, consultation calls and
the media
5 To engage and interact with other sectors in energy
with active participation in seminars, conferences
6 To actively
exercise An Taisce’s prescribed body role in making submissions and appearing at
Oral Hearings on electricity generation and transmission projects on behalf of
An Taisce
7 To establish links with organisations or cities
internationally promoting best practice or the most advanced implementation of
strategies reducing energy emissions
The position is offered for a
three year contract for a full time staff member to be based in Dublin City
Centre. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator with at least
5 years experience in the environmental sector, relevant post-graduate
qualifications and a good understanding of energy matters and current policy.
Salary 48K.
