An Taisce has received several photographs of Tailors' Hall, courtesy of Mrs B Weir, which were taken prior to the restoration of the building. After falling into dereliction in the 1950s the hall was restored in the 1960s and more recently in the 1980s. The photographs illustrate how the building was close to losing a lot of its features and character. The Great Hall was missing a ceiling, the attic space was missing its floor, the building was without windows and open to the elements without. The case of Tailors' Hall highlights the concerted and targeted approach needed to to reverse dereliction and secure new uses for old buildings. Much of An Taisce's work for the Buildings at Risk project focuses on applying pressure to secure new uses for our built heritage. Click here to view the photographs in full.
