Co-ordinating ENGO input to the next National Biodiversity Plan
This project has been run by An Taisce throughout 2006 to facilitate and co-ordinate environmental NGO input to the next National Biodiversity Plan, due for publication in 2007. The project has been funded by the Heritage Council under the Heritage Grants Scheme 2006.
Groups participated in the project are as follows: An Taisce, Coastwatch Ireland, Eco-Unesco, The Irish Peatland Conservation Council, The Irish Seed Saver Association, The Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, Irish Wildlife Trust, and Voice of Irish Concern for the Environment.
The process of several ENGOs working together on Biodiversity policy process has been very effective in terms of building improved working relationships between groups; fostering greater understanding of existing biodiversity policy; and developing a common approach to biodiversity issues among the participating groups. This coordinated approach to the development of the next National Biodiversity Plan enables the ENGO sector to maximise our positive contribution to the Plan.
The improved input from this sector contributes to strengthened policy for the protection and conservation of Ireland’s Natural Heritage. Benefits of this project will be seen in the next NBP and the improved protection this will deliver to flora, fauna, habitats, and society in general.
