One of the bastions of the WFD legislation is Public Participation and Advisory Council members were selected from bodies and organizations that are representative of broad public opinion and from local political representatives. Further, those members co-opted from the voluntary sector were selected precisely because of their connection with mainstream life and their abilities to bring water issues to the notice of the concerned citizen and to public discussion and debate. The individual citizen can make a significant contribution by making themselves aware of water issues, by taking an active interest in their local environment, by operating good practices in the management of their waste and by the careful use of our water resource.
