News and Events Latest News and Press Releases An Taisce seeks action from Minister Humphreys over destruction of Ancient Bog Road On Friday of last week (27th August) An Taisce wrote to Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Arts Heritage and Gaeltacht, during Heritage Week 2015 seeking a Preservation Order on a Bronze Age archaeological discovery of trackways (toghers) at Mayne Bog Co Westmeath, these are dated 800-1,200 BC. An Taisce believes these trackways are currently being destroyed - see our Press Release of 27th August 2015 http://www.antaisce.org/articles/internationally-important-irish-archaeological-monument-being-destroyed-during-heritage An Taisce belives that by reason of European and National importance this trackway is a “National Monument” as defined by Section 2 of the 1930 Act namely “a monument or the remains of a monument the preservation of which is a matter of national importance by reason of the historical, architectural, traditional, artistic, or archaeological interest attaching thereto” So we have formally written directly to the Minister to request herurgent intervention to make a Preservation Order on the above and subject any further development to Environmental Impact Assessment under SI 249 of 2012.
