You are invited to the screening of "Fossil Free Europe" in DCU on Fri Nov 1 at 7.15pm

An Taisce The National Trust for Ireland is supporting the screening of "Fossil Free Europe" in DCU on Friday, 1st November at 7.15pm. The film Calls for divestment from fossil fuels.

Backing the 350.org initiative in Ireland, James Nix, An Taisce's policy director, has said that "fossil fuel deposits, once their real costs are factored in, are more valuable left in the ground".

"This means pension funds need to shift out of fossil fuels and in to energy efficiency and renewable power. We know that only one-fifth of known fossil fuel deposits can safety be burned; to go beyond this level leaves our grandchildren a world unfit for human habitation", he said.

The message from An Taisce echoes recent comments by former President and UN High Commissioner Mary Robinson who has noted that "there is a global limit on a safe level of emissions", and that "major fossil fuel reserves must be left in the ground", and that this has "huge implications for economic and social development".

The event is hosted by the DCU Sustainability Initiative and is part of the 350.org "Fossil Free Europe Tour" event which will be live streamed from London. 350.org is a global grassroots movement which promotes effective actions to address the urgent worldwide challenge of severe, human triggered, climate disruption.
