Arlington House, Portarlington French Church Street Portarlington Co Laois Ireland Details NIAH Ref: 12900201 Date: 1690 - 1740 Rating: Regional Orig. Use: House Townland: French Church Street County: Laois More Info: Click Here Last Reviewed: August 2019 Criteria for Risk Suffering from neglect and/or poor maintenance Suffering from structural problems Abandoned ruin Assessment Condition of Structure: Very Poor Level of Risk: High Appraisal Arlington House was constructed in two periods; an early 18th century house to the rear, with later 18th century house to the front, with pedimented centre-piece. The building functioned as a school during the late 19th century. Following over twenty years of dereliction, the building is now a shell. On account of its history, its architectural design and its prominent location in the centre of the town adjoining the River Barrow and bridge and its severly derelict current condition, the building urgently requires efforts to identify a path towards its restoration and appropriate new use.
