Talk — Babe's Bridge Restoration Project On 20 August, an engaging talk about the restoration of Babe's Bridge which is along the Boyne Navigation Towpath. The bridge dates from the early thirteenth century and is arguably the oldest surviving stone bridge arch in Ireland. The southernmost arch remains standing with parts of the piers of the other arches remaining in the river. An Taisce in partnership with Meath County Council have just completed a restoration of the bridge arch and foundations with funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage's Communities Monument Fund. The on site talk will outline the history of the bridge and the recent restoration works. The morning of events was open free to families and the wider public to enjoy a small but untamed woodland preserved in the urban realm where wildlife has a home and sanctuary. One of An Taisce's heritage properties held in trust, The Grove is one of the few examples of woodland in the Dublin City area. It provides a safe haven for bats, sparrowhawks, frogs and foxes. The family-friendly event day organised by a dedicated group of An Taisce local association members on Saturday 17th August explored the wonders of the woodland, nature-inspired art and pond dipping.
