An Taisce has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála against the decision by Dublin City Council to grant permission for an eight storey hotel behind the Dublin Four Courts.

The proposed development in Chancery Street is to the rear of the Four Courts, on the site of the vacant River House office block which was the formerly the Motor Tax Office.

In 2011 permission was granted for a 5 to 6 storey office redevelopment by An Bord Pleanála which runs until 2021.

The current 8 storey hotel proposal represents a significant increase in scale and impact.

The An Taisce appeal has raised particular concerns on the views of the Four Courts from Christchurch and Winetavern St from across the river, and the appropriate building height levels applied in other planning decisions in the area.
