The Killaha West property consists of just under 4 ha of mixed native oak woodland, grassland and river shoreline. The native oak woodland is an increasingly rare habitat in Ireland. It also has a substantial shoreline along the Kenmare River Special Area of Conversation and is bounded on the other sides by similarly wooded properties.
In addition, the property lies within the area zoned as Prime Special Amenity in the Kerry County Development Plan. Within the site, a short distance from the road stands a two story, stone built, slated, traditional farm house with outbuildings.
The house is being conserved as a bat roost.
